Ringkas Kisah
ROGUSTA berusaha lari dari kejaran masa lalunya, tapi tak pernah berhasil. Bayangan BAPAK dan IBU selalu mengikuti ke mana ia pergi. Mereka senantiasa memaksakan masa depan yang sudah dipersiapkan baginya. Ia menolak, lalu mengembara.
Sebagai dokter baru di RSJ yang dipimpin Profesor SIDARITA, Rogusta berharap bisa menerapkan cara penyembuhan lewat pendekatan yang penuh persahabatan. Dan bukan dengan perlakuan yang merupakan cerminan kekuasaan tak terbantahkan. Ia tak ingin, rasa takut membuat penyakit para pasien jadi lebih lengkap.
Setelah beberapa waktu, Rogusta berhasil mendapatkan kesempatan untuk menerapkan metode penyembuhannya. Para pasien yang awalnya terkungkung rasa takut, mulai menanggapi. Rogusta memberikan harapan baru. Dan perlahan, para pasien mulai menapaki jalan menuju kesembuhan. Dari situ, pengaruh Rogusta makin kuat, para pasien tak sudi menerima perawatan dokter lain.
Di sisi lain, Sidarita sebagai direktur RSJ, merasa kekuasaannya sedang diintip-intip dan disangsikan. Ia menjadi berang. Kedua asistennya yang paling senior - MURDIWAN dan TUNGGUL - juga merasa disaingi oleh dokter baru itu. Lalu mereka merancang siasat agar Rogusta tersingkir.
Inilah cerita tentang para dokter, juga para pasien penyakit jiwa, serta kemunafikan ketua yayasan yang berkuasa atas rumah sakit jiwa itu. Kisah tentang upaya seseorang yang optimis, bahwa dia mampu mengubah sebuah sistem yang sudah sangat mapan. Apakah akan sia-sia?
Tapi benarkah mereka yang terkena penyakit jiwa semakin banyak jumlahnya? Apakah benar dunia sedang berubah menjadi sebuah rumah sakit jiwa? Dan kita semua ada di sana? Barangkali hanya kita sendiri yang bisa menjawabnya.
Synopsis
ROGUSTA tries to escape from his past, but never succeeds. His FATHER and MOTHER haunts him whereever he goes. They keep forcing him to accept the future they had prepared for him. He rejects it, then goes on a journey to forge his own path.
As a new doctor in the Psychiatric Hospital lead by Professor SIDARITA, Rogusta has hopes that he is able to apply therapeutic practices in a more patient-friendly approach. And to not use treatments which denote absolute authority over the patients. He does not want fear to worsen the condition of the patients.
After some time, Rogusta gets the opportunity to utilize his therapy methods. The patients, who are initially afraid, start responding. Rogusta gives them new hope. And slowly, the patients begin their journey to recovery. From then on, Rogusta’s influence grows, the patients refuses treatment from other doctors.
On the other hand, Sidarita as the director of the hospital, feels that his authority is constantly being surveilled and scrutinized. He is livid. Two of his most senior assistants – MURDIWAN and TUNGGUL – also feel threatened by the new doctor. Then they both devise a scheme to get rid of Rogusta.
This is a story about doctors, and people with mental illness, and the duplicitous chairwoman of the foundation that holds sway over the hospital. A story of a person who is optimistic in transforming a long established system. Will it all be for nothing?
But is it true that nowadays there are more people with mental illness? Is it true that the world is turning into a mental asylum? And we are all inside it? Perhaps only we alone can answer that question.
